London Power Tunnels Phase 2 (LPT2) is a large project that will establish a new transmission cable line within a 32.5km underground tunnel network deep beneath the ground from Wimbledon in south west London to Crayford in south east London.
Taihan will complete the design and delivery, connection construction, testing, etc. of a 400kV cable system in a single batch. This project has a significant meaning in that it is the largest electric power grid contract a Korean cable firm has ever won in the United Kingdom, as well as the largest among the projects won by Taihan since entering the European market.
Passing rigorous reviews during the bidding process
In terms of scope and relevance, this project is regarded a key project among the several underground projects undertaken by the British National Gird. Because the cable network was placed in central London, the quality and reliability of the technology used were among the most critical assessment elements to be considered. Naturally, incredibly strict criteria were imposed throughout the bidding process assessments, which were followed by a thorough inspection procedure that lasted more than a year.
